GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Quality Inspector is responsible for monitoring the incoming condition of supplier materials. The Technician’s accountabilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Ability to work safely around material handling equipment and abide by all safety rules and PPE requirements
  • Monitor and evaluate the condition of incoming supplier shipments:
  • Inspect all packaging material at the receiving docks.
  • Inspect all flow through material at the receiving docks for damaged packaging, damaged pallets, pyramid loads, single box pallets, and any other issues that may result in damage during shipping and transit.
  • Monitor and evaluate the condition of the WIP material:
  • Inspect packaging in the storage/staging areas.
  • Inspect flow through material at staging areas for any damaged packaging.
  • Monitor and evaluate the condition of material being shipped:
  • Inspect packaging and material in the shipping staging area.
  • Take pictures of all air freight material and transfer them to the proper network drive folders.
  • Manage ODC inbound loads that arrive without ASNs. Work with MP&L to return these loads.
  • Manage and maintain supplier communication regarding non-conforming shipments
  • Via e-mail
  • Via telephone
  • Respond to supplier non-conformances when alerted by the Receiving Department
  • Maintain written description of the non-conformance by following RGL non-conformance process
  • Manage Quality Hold Areas
  • Tag non-conformances and ensure routing to the next required process step for repair
  • Perform light repair of non-conformances (usually taping of boxes, helping restack boxes, etc.)
  • Assist in cleanup of spilled and/or broken containers (picking up fasteners, etc.)
  • Maintain a log of identified non-conformances
  • Performs other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Safe work history around material handling equipment
  • Great attendance record (both absences and tardiness)
  • Self-directed worker
  • Ability to perform accurate visual inspections
  • Attention to detail
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to take photographs and send via e-mail
  • Ability to enter data into Microsoft Excel
  • Experience performing Receiving Inspection
  • Experience as a quality inspector/technician
  • Demonstrated ability to write basic formulae and format data in Microsoft Excel

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One to three years of sustained prior employment
  • Work experience in a material handling and/or manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Quality Technician/Inspector experience is beneficial but not necessary
