Summary:
The Lead CRNA, Anesthesia is a member of the patient care delivery team and performs the clinical duties of a CRNA in conjunction with the Lead role.
Under general direction of the CNO/Department Director and in collaboration with the Chief of Anesthesia coordinates and guides the activities of a small group of CRNA's.
The primary responsibilities include the coordination of patient care activities performed by unit based personnel and evaluation of care provided in conjunction with the CNO/Department Director.
Clinical duties of the Lead CRNA include the administration of anesthetics and adjunctive medications to render patients insensible to pain; monitoring patient's condition while under anesthesia; initiation of corrective actions using professional judgment; and functioning as a team member to perform preoperative reassessment, preoperative assessment, anesthetic management and post-anesthesia care of the patient.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Participates in the definition, monitoring and evaluation of standards of patient care.

In collaboration with the Department Director and or the Chief of Anesthesia, monitors and evaluates clinical competency of CRNA staff.
Identifies learning needs of CRNA staff and develops plans for addressing those needs.
3.
Ensures that patient care quality goals are met with the appropriate mix and number of qualified care providers through daily staffing adjustments and unit staffing schedules.
4.
Ensures and promotes patient, employee, visitor and unit safety.
5.
Facilitates and utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care delivery.
6.
Maintains and promotes rapport with physicians and other health care providers to enhance quality of care and to resolve patient care issues.
7.
Creates an environment of shared governance and promotes staff participation in related activities.
8.
Maintains a high level of visibility on the patient care unit with patients and families, visitors, physicians and employees.
9.
Supports the team in providing clinical patient care.
10.
Participates in monitoring performance improvement activities and data collection.
11.
Enforces hospital policies and procedures; interprets them to patients and families, visitors and employees as needed.
12.
Facilitates the acquisition of supplies and equipment to support the patient unit work environment.
13.
Assists in monitoring theoperating budget for patient care services under the direction of the CNO/Department Director.
14.
Investigates and intervenes in problem situations.
In conjunction with the CNO/Department Director manages continuous improvement initiatives, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
15.
Establishes, maintains and monitors effective communication regarding patient care.
16.
Facilitates staff participation in orientation, mandatory and continuing education programs and other staff development opportunities.
17.
Acts as a mentor, coach and facilitator for staff and anesthesia students.
18.
Orients, trains and assigns work to CRNA's; acts as first level reviewer; recommends candidates for hire; assists with disciplinary matters.
19.
In collaboration with the CNO/Department Director; develops, implements and monitors plans to ensure compliance with professional, regulatory and governmental standards of care.
20.
Coordinates staff meetings as assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications 1.
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
2.
Graduate from an accredited school of anesthesia.
3.
National CRNA certification and/or re-certification.
4.
Michigan license to practice as a registered nurse.
5.
Michigan license to practice as a certified registered nurse anesthetist.
6.
Current member of American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
7.
Masters degree in anesthesia or other related area, preferred.
8.
Two to three years of progressively more responsible nursing experience.
9.
Management training and/or experience, preferred.

7.

Specialized clinical knowledge and analytical ability to accurately facilitate patient care.
