EKG Technician - 40 Hours/Week Day Shift - Detroit Hospital

Eligible for Full-Time Benefits
Shift: Days 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, rotate to cover vacations. Monday - Friday, no weekends or holidays.
GENERAL
Summary:
Under general supervision, performs technically acceptable computerized electrocardiograms on a routine and emergency basis for both in-patient and outpatient services. Applies digital and cassette Holter monitor recorders and performs electrocardiogram editing after physician over-read as well as transaction capture (billing). Performs other related duties as assigned.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Performs computerized electrocardiograms to record electrical output of heart muscle by attaching electrodes to specified parts of the body.
Connects leads from electrocardiograph machine to electrodes with small clips. Inputs the correct patient demographics into the electrocardiogram machine.
Reviews recording from each electrode position for clear artifact free recording and for deviations from normal. Reports grossly abnormal test results to the appropriate personnel.
Routinely edits electrocardiographs from all HFHS satellites to verify accuracy of patient demographics, such as patient name and medical record numbers before uploading to Care+.
Responds to stat electrocardiography requests and provides electrocardiographic monitoring.
Assures accurate and complete information on graphs and requisitions.
Cleans equipment according to infectious disease policies and replenishes EKG machine's tracing paper and supplies as needed.
Reports inoperable equipment to technology management for repair.
Ideal candidate would be able to enable the EKG/Holter team to perform/maintain daily MUSE edit list workflow. Making sure the providers MUSE in-baskets are filled for daily EKG test confirmation/upload to Epic (electronic medical records). Application of 24/48 hour, extended wear holter recorders including Cardiac event recorders for scheduled out-patients and clinic upon request. In addition, it would provide team flexibility towards addressing/correcting all satellite orders that require to be linked/released for pending holter orders to the scanning company. Lastly, to provide EKG procedures upon request to be performed for daily out-patient/clinic services as requested in a timely manner.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Requires High School diploma with additional cardiovascular training in performing and interpreting EKG's or the equivalent.
Six (6) months to one (1) year of experience as EKG technician, preferred.
Analysis of technical problems is necessary when performing electrocardiograms in order to obtain an acceptable tracing.
Improper computer input of patient identification data could result in misinterpretation of electrocardiograms and possible misdiagnosis and mistreatment.
Daily contact with physicians to deliver EKG's for physician's reading and signature.
Recognition of life-threatening arrhythmias is required to be able to notify the nurse and/or physician.
Requires basic knowledge of computer usage as well as constant, walking, standing and pushing.
