The Systems Engineer plays a leading role in the design, implementation and administration of our systems. The Systems Engineer's role is to ensure the stability, integrity and efficient operation of the information systems that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting and optimizing all networked software and associated operating systems. The Systems Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefits of IT investments. The Systems Engineer is considered the subject matter expert for their systems and mentors other team members.
Responsibilities
Identify and resolve complex performance bottlenecks
Utilize enterprise tools such as Puppet and Nagios to manage, monitor and secure enterprise data center environments
Maintain responsibility for engineering, design and administration of Linux, Solaris and AIX operating systems
Oversee projects from initial concept through planning and implementation
Create automation solutions
Collaborate with developers and clients to develop solutions
Participate in an on-call rotation
Requirements
Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in computer science or similar technical subject or equivalent
Five years of experience performing server systems design, implementation and administration or equivalent (Linux preferred)
Five years of experience analyzing system failures to minimize outages and interruptions or equivalent (Linux preferred)
Five years of experience working with server class hardware or equivalent (Linux preferred)
Advanced technical certifications (Linux or Solaris or AIX)
Possess in-depth knowledge of operating systems, including Red Hat Linux, Solaris and AIX
Experience in system engineering/project management and taking projects from initial concept through planning and implementation
Experience with web based applications using Apache, Nginx, Memcached and Redis
Advanced scripting experience in Bash, PHP and Python
Expert knowledge of SANs, clustering, backup and other enterprise applications to maintain availability and recoverability of systems
Possess a high sense of urgency and a high level of integrity
Great communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly analyze and resolve issues and to adapt and execute quickly to meet our customers' needs in a rapidly changing business environment
