WHAT DOES A LEGAL INSTRUMENTS EXAMINER DO? Legal Instruments Examiners are responsible for initiating, conducting, and completing studies related to the interpretation of various compliance publications, regulations, and laws where you will research, analyze, provide summaries, explanations and develop conclusions, and ensure that legal forms and documents are in compliance with appropriate laws and regulations, as well as, established policies and procedures. In this position, you will provide guidance to various financial institutions and offices on compliance procedures and regulations, as well as, communicate the information through discussions centered on practical examples. As a Legal Instruments Examiner you will:
Examine and verify documents, including designated applications, registrations, affidavits and other predetermined legal and administrative papers ensuring legal forms and documents are prepared in compliance with appropriate laws and regulations, established policies, and procedures. Review routine and complex non-routine applications, and conduct audits/research of individual case files to determine accuracy and/or resolve inconsistencies. Establish, update, and maintain casework file folders in accordance with regulatory guidelines and established office procedures reconciling case history. Interpret and apply current Treasury guidelines and publications related to case resolution, inquiries, and/or complaints. Produce a variety of computer printouts related to the case workload when requests are received highlighting items of a unique or unusual nature. Receive and answer a variety of requests for information concerning legal transactions under review, provide the status of these transactions under consideration, reasons for exclusions, procedures involved in the approval process, and answer other general questions. Advise depository institutions on the guidelines for Exemption Procedures for Currency Transaction Reporting (CTRs). Provide technical interpretation on the administrative exemption process and procedure of the Bank Secrecy Act. Review specific requests from financial institutions and non-bank financial institutions regarding backfiling CTRs requirements. Request documents and follow up on required decisions or requests and review for accuracy and completeness prior to processing. WHERE CAN I FIND OUT MORE ABOUT OTHER IRS CAREERS? You must have one (1) year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experiencefor this position includes:
knowledge of applicable Federal laws and agency regulations governing the resolution of case processing and other administrative matters, sufficient to examine, review, and verify various legal and administrative documents and investigative reports for evaluation and determination of non-compliance and to processes administrative cases requiring the performance of multi-faceted actions, such as research, investigation and analysis of pertinent data, laws, and regulations; Ability to conduct audits/research of individual case files to determine accuracy and resolve inconsistencies; Research techniques used to extract and compile data from files in order to make appropriate comparisons and develop recommendations; Oral and written communications techniques to be able to handle inquiries and complaints, as well as, provide legal and administrative information. This is generally demonstrated by assignments where you received and answered a variety of written and verbal requests for information concerning legal transactions, provided the status of these transactions under consideration, reasons for exclusions, procedures involved in the approval process, and answering other general questions.-- The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
