TAX EXAMINING TECHNICIAN

WHAT DOES A TAX EXAMINATION TECHNICIAN DO? As a Tax Examination Technician you will perform work that involves resolving previously unsatisfied cases regarding difficult and/or sensitive taxpayer problems, complaints, or inquiries involving potential tax adjustments on all types of tax accounts. In this position, you will apply current and prior year tax rules, regulations, and procedures. As a Tax Examination Tech you will:
Analyze and resolve tax processing problems using research methods beyond information submitted by the taxpayer. Reconstruct and compile tax records in determining tax liability or refund entitlement. Identify claims and cite tax law and case actions./li> Adjusts current and prior year tax accounts involving complex account interrelationships or codes to override controls, retrieve data, and construct records from frozen accounts. Calculate taxes, penalties, and interest. Identify gaps in the internal procedures and processing methods. Provides technical assistance on systemic problems and inconsistencies in the IRM. You must have one (1) year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
knowledge of relevant tax laws, rules, and regulations which may include individual and business tax law, collection techniques and enforcement, actions, regulations, practices, tax forms, notices, bills, and other documents to manage sensitive case problems; Ability to identify the nature and scope of problems or issues; make appropriate adjustments to accounts, and advise taxpayers of options available for meeting tax obligations; and Knowledge of available on-line systems, research materials, technology, and tools to resolve taxpayer's inquiries.- The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.-To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week, on your resume.In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following, if applicable:
You must have been at the GS-07 level for 52 weeks (time-in-grade requirement).

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
