Assistant Chief Respiratory Care

Duties of the Assistant Chief are stated but not limited to the following. As Supervisor/Assistant Chief he/she will be responsible to maintain competencies for all staff. The Assistant Chief is expected to conduct themselves with Integrity and Commitment to VA's mission; to advocate for Veteran Interests, treat customers and co-workers with dignity and Respect and strive for Excellence. Will perform yearly/mid year performance reviews for all staff in the respiratory care section. Performs/assists in all maters related to Huddle Board and Improvement board. Assists Chief in obtaining data for all QM monitors related to the respiratory care section. Helps prepare documents pertaining to huddle board such as Job instruction sheetsetc. Ensures staff participation in daily huddles and encourages their input to attain proper level of improvements. Will train new staff and assure proper orientation to the medical center and especially the functions, policies and procedures of the respiratory care section. Conducts periodic staffing review and reports to Chief any and all concerns regarding but not limited to staffing. Will create staffing schedule for at least a 4 week period. Will try and accommodate all requests from staff for time off. Serves as alternate timekeeper in the absence of the Chief. Ensures staff practices the five steps of making a positive first impression and continuous positive interaction throughout patient's experience (AIDWT-Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You). Helps eliminate timecard exceptions especially those greater than 30 days .Assist Chief of service to minimize overtime and develop employee schedule that is fair and follow established guidelines. Will help the Chief oversee the clinical aspects of the Home Oxygen Program. Works with Human Resources as appropriate, to ensure that an employee's conduct deficiencies are addressed expeditiously. Works with Human Resources Management in participating in all steps of the recruiting and hiring process to expeditiously recruit for vacant positions and to select qualified employees, including obtaining at least tow references for the selectee. Meets all established timeframes and deadlines. The fully successful Assistant Chief ensures introduction of mission critical and non-critical measures into performance plans of all direct reports and ensures roll out of mission critical and non-critical measures to the front-line staff. This position is 40% administrative and 60% clinical. Work Schedule:

Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Must possess a certificate as a Registered Respiratory Therapist from the NBRC (National Board of Respiratory Care) and a registry number, or a certificate from another body which the NBRC recognizes as its credentialing equivalent. This includes registration based on either:
(1) Having fulfilled the requirements and passed the registry examination administered by the NBRC since 1983, or (2) Having fulfilled the requirements and passed the registry examination for a registered inhalation or respiratory therapist administered by the (1) National Board for Respiratory Therapy from July 1974 through 1982 or (2) American Registry of Inhalation Therapists from 1961 through June 1974. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Experience:
In addition to the basic requirements, at least 1 year of successful experience related to respiratory therapy at the GS-9 level or equivalent. Qualifying experience at this level is work which includes duties such as:
Assigning and explaining work requirements relative to respiratory care for new or changed, as well as existing, programs. Resolves technical work problems, including those not covered by precedents or established policies. Develops and updates guidelines and policies for nonroutine or complex assignments. Keeps employees and higher-level supervisors informed of matters that affect them. Has authority to prepare and follow up on actions for most supervisory personnel functions. Prepares formal requests for filling vacancies for additional personnel to meet work requirements. Selects or participates with considerable influence in selection of employees from eligible candidates. Prepares requests and recommendations for promotions, reassignments and other changes, and incentive and employee recognition awards and special advancements. Formulates training and education plans for subordinates and arranges for appropriate training courses. Plans work schedules and the sequence of operations, and recommends and implements changes in organization or work assignments to improve work, services, job satisfaction, etc. Preferred
Experience:
, 2-3 years of progressive managerial experience in Respiratory Care within a hospital setting is preferred. References:

Ability to lift at least 40 lbs. Ability to walk distances in the Medical Center especially while performing a six minute walk test on a Veteran.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
