Physical Security Specialist

The Physical Security Specialist is responsible for:
Implementing security policies and procedures in all matters pertaining to the protection and safety of the Department of Veteran Affairs-Detroit VA Medical Center, personnel and twelve Community Based Outpatient Clinics. Conduct security surveys and reviews analysis of pertinent security vulnerability data, to include threat/risk assessment and management data, and recommends appropriate security countermeasures. Provide advice and assistance to staff to assure that proper security protection is afforded during all aspects of operational activities. Plans and recommends the installation of security systems which may involve access controls, alarm systems, security forces, and other measures. As an assistant to the locksmith conducts any and all key replacements, core repairs, completes and monitors Maximo requests and fulfillments. As an armed officer with prescribed powers of arrest for violation of Federal offenses, monitors all activity occurring at the VAMC Detroit MI and is constantly alert to acts of a suspicious nature which may result in theft, burglary, pilferage, assault, or other minor or serious crimes. Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
the ability to identify security vulnerabilities, make corrections, document and recommend changes; request and monitor work orders; identify and mitigate risk associated with unsafe conditions and provide briefings and advise staff on recommended police response requirements and procedures. Physical Requirements:
The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion, long hours of standing, waling, driving and similar activities. The incumbent must respond to alarms, pursue suspects, participate in training activities, climb stairs and walk during assigned foot patrols in and around large buildings, campus, and other physical settings. Agility, dexterity and strength are needed to pursue, apprehend and detain uncooperative suspects. On a regular and recurring basis, the work requires strenuous exertion physically restraining disorderly individuals to prevent harm to others or the individual. Incumbents must be physically able to lift or carry injured or hurt persons, evacuate persons to safety during storms, disasters, fires or other emergencies. The incumbent is expected to maintain a high standard of physical fitness and hand and eye coordination in order to maintain his or her semi-annual qualification with assigned firearm and annual qualification with assigned department issued intermediate weapons. Strenuous physical exertion is also required during many required and recurring training activities such as those related to weapons training, Active Threat Response training and Ground Defense and Recovery training. This position is armed and will be required to adhere to all Police training requirements as mandated by the VA Handbook 0730, Law Enforcement Training Center (LETC), and Office of Security and Law Enforcement (OSLE) requirements. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
