The Regional Director (RD) is responsible for meeting or exceeding, company defined, growth and operating margin targets through multiple MSC sales channels in a defined geographical region. The position reports directly into the VP of Field Sales.

The role requires little to no direction in managing the day-to-day operations and tactical execution of the operating model in their region. The RD provides direct management support to the Business Team Leaders in the Region who, in turn, lead 10-12 Sales Associates for 2-3 different MSC Sales Channels. The RD also provides senior leadership support to all feet-on-the-street (FOS) in the Region, regardless of reporting line.

The RD is responsible for providing 3-6 months financial forecasts, status updates on market conditions, competitive landscape, and key customers to executive leadership. They also are required to work with executive leadership to develop and refine strategic plans within the framework of the operating model.

The RD will also be required to represent the entire field sales team in various cross functional strategy development and / or process improvement development on an as needed basis as required by the VP of Field Sales.

DUTIES and
Responsibilities:

Profitable Sales Growth

  • Responsible for meeting or exceeding growth and contribution margin targets set out by the company for the Field Sales customer base in the assigned geography.
  • Consults with VP Field Sales and executive teams to assist in developing strategic, long term sales plans and goals and identifying challenges, gaps or process deficiencies that could inhibit attainment of the company s objectives.
  • Develops and cultivates strong customer relationships with senior leadership of the Region s largest customer base by in-person and virtual connection.
  • Ensures timely review of all sales reporting and ensures management team makes necessary pivots to ensure attainment of short-term and long-term objectives set out by the company.
  • Collaborates with senior mgmt. of Solutions and Business Development organizations to ensure retention of customers and acquisition of new medium A large customers.

Strategic Planning

  • Responsible for ensuring cross functional communication and collaboration between all MSC Associates that interact with the customer base to ensure efficient and effective delivery of the operating model and ensure the sales teams are positioned to leverage MSC customer improvement activities for increased share gains.
  • Leverages internal and external resources to analyze market data, competitive landscape, and resource alignment to ensure region is continually positioned for growth regardless of economic conditions or other external influences on account volume.

  • Creates regional strategic plans, within guideposts of operating model, to maximize revenue growth while minimizing operating expense as a % of sales.

Human Resources

  • Performs all duties inherent to the role of MSC Director as defined by the MSC Code of Conduct including hiring, terminations, review and performance. Acts responsibly as a director level job in a public company.
  • Develops and implements plans to attract, retain and develop associates in sales and sales management throughout the region.
  • Is responsible for ensuring accountability to achieving objectives and adherence to the defined sales activities outlined as a part of the operating model and go to market strategy. Works with Human Resources team to ensure BTL are holding their teams accountable and

Supply Chain

  • Works with Customer Fulfillment Center leadership to ensure customer specific inventory needs are met and advise of material shifts in product demand to ensure adequate inventory provisions are met.
  • Analyzes and authorizes placement of CAPEX investments in customer facilities up to $100,000
  • Liaises with Supply Chain directors to ensure adequate coverage at customers site to meet customer needs while maintaining company objectives on operating expense as a percent of revenue.

Category (Product)

  • Develops and cultivates relationships with senior leadership at key strategic suppliers and works with them to ensure they are focused on supporting MSC at our customers
  • Provides input and feedback to our category team to develop strategic shifts and new sku induction

EDUCATION and
Experience:

  • A Bachelor s Degree or the equivalent and a minimum of nine years progressively more responsible outside sales experience including a minimum of five years progressive sales management experience.

SKILLS:

  • Experience selling and managing sales in a business to business environment are required.
  • Excellent planning, budgeting, and forecasting P&L skills are required.
  • Strategic planning experience is required.
  • Excellent recruiting and hiring skills are required.
  • Excellent leadership skills required
  • Excellent change management skills required
  • Basic computer literacy is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills are also required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid driver s license and the ability to travel is required.
